The report summarizes the results of a national study on a representative sample of kindergartens in Hungary. The study combined a survey in 1000 kindergardens and their meal providers and calculation of nutrients based on 10-day menus. Additionally a laboratory analysis of meal samples taken during 3 days in a representative subsamples of 35 kindergardens and a survey on eating habits of the children in the subsample and their family were also taken. a few main statements from the report: kindergarden meals have high salt level, low vegetable and fruit content; access to special dietary regimes and healthy liquid options are problematic. The report calls for a more detailed, healthy regulation of public catering in schools and kindergardens.
