Organisation summary: The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (Forskningsrådet för arbetsliv och socialvetenskap / FAS) is a government agency under the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. FAS, funds and initiates basic and needs-driven research within the fields of working life, social sciences and public health. It is also responsible for coordinating research in certain areas. In addition, FAS creates conditions necessary for disseminating, and promoting dialogue regarding, research results. It also identifies areas for new research efforts and formulate research programs in dialogue with other research financers. FAS aims to increase national and international collaboration and exchange within academia. The research that FAS finances is about the daily lives of many people, and addresses: employment markets, work organization, occupational health, welfare and social insurance, as well as social services and social relations. In 2011, FAS provided 450 million Swedish Crowns in research funds.
