Organisation summary: CMDT-LA was created in 1992, as a R&D Centre at the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, under the auspices of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Since December 2004, following maximum international evaluation ratings, obtained the statute of Associate Laboratory . Our main goal is, by statute, excellence in research in the field of Tropical Diseases. With a core research activity covering biological, molecular, clinical and public health aspects of the tropical health - with special focus on poverty and neglected diseases - we put together a strong group of international scientists with diversified skills and competencies, who also develop instrumental actions within the Centre, such as training and capacitation, PhD and Masters programs, control program's development and implementation, health education, among others.
