Child Health Measurements and Indicators

Sound indicators, based on good measurements, for various aspects of child health and its determinants is essential for the future development of child health within the EU

Work Package 2 - Measurements and Indicators

Leader Prof Anders Hjern, NHV (SE) Deputy Leader Dr Mitch Blair, Imperial (UK) Developing and implementing sound indicators, based on good measurements, for various aspects of child health and its determinants is essential for the future development of child health within the EU (Rigby, 2003). Benchmarking of treatment methods based on indicators drives quality work in clinical practice. Comparison of health policies in the EU demands high quality indicators of policy and health for reliable analyses. Measuring health is at the heart of the development of preventive measures in a life course perspective. Reliable and valid methods of measurements created for use in one scientific context often can be very useful in other contexts as well. Producing an inventory of measurement and indicators will in itself facilitate the implementation of existing methods in the EU and spark the development of new ones through facilitation of networking.

WP2 Meeting 14th and 15th June 2010 Nordic School of Public Health Gothenburg, Sweden Anthony Staines welcomed the group to the meeting and drew attention to the RICHE poster. The poster has two aims, to provide input to the commission and to publicise the project to others. We need to use the experience and knowledge of people from a wide range of backgrounds – policy makers, those in the European Union, from children, from member states and so on.
